EXPLORCHI:THE REVIVAL
It might be too early to start writing about things I have just started to explore and particularly a field which I have just entered.But I believe it's never too early to get enthusiastic about things or to even try and get a grasp of things that tend to attract my interests.This is exactly what my EXPLORCHI is all about.
Part 1 Exp 1;
This was an under renovation building in my locality as I was on my way to college,many provocative thoughts just pulled me towards this site and I had that zeal to just check it out out of pure childish traits.If I start to explore about it,particularly from a history point of view,I will learn that it easily dates back 2 or even 3 generations.Time and lack of care had ripped it off of it's insanely strong historic significance to a family.That very family,now seems to have realized how difficult life is to spend in the chaos of the town areas and tried to reconsider their ancestral home as a possible residence.With no space in the houses at the towns,there seems to be even no feasibility even to perform the funeral rites of the deceased close ones.That was just to elucidate the extent of how the chaos of town has hampered or in a way tried to reshape how we live or even die.
Perhaps,as a structure,the things that generally captivated my interests were how the transformation affected on it's functionality,sustainability,durability and economical feasibility without actually disturbing it's sense of originality.
When it comes to functionality,a now defunct old building got a new roof and load bearing columns made of metal which consequently made it easier to have a brief examination of the internal structural integrity of the whole building.Eventually,the parts/sections of the structure that need to be repaired,reshaped,renovated or even changed completely can be accessed with ease.
Being an old structure,it was surely affected by multiple constraints over the time.Since the time it was built,it surely has faced multiple earthquakes(that to me is the biggest source of danger to it's holistic structural integrity).In addition to that,it has been exposed to open weather for ages and as the materials used on it were probably not that susceptible to the changing weather for a long time,it must have become prone to further damages in a chain leading to the building to become completely unusable.The changed roofs and columns with metallic materials will surely re-enforce it's structural strength.This will also contribute on ensuring the durability of it.
Economically,it will be feasible enough to renovate an existing structure than to completely demolish it and build one at it's place from the foundational level.As the majority of the building has been left unaffected,the original materials used to build the walls,doors/windows,pavings,flooring and joists/sub-floor are still intact there.That approach,to me,feels socially,culturally,historically and Architecturally significant in preservation of the uniqueness in this age of chaotic,imbalanced and disproportionate facades and building methods preferred and widely followed.
I am no expert !!! but I certainly am a person who believes that when the heat of concrete really affects people,they will miss the olden structures their forefathers used to build and where they spent there entire life in a way not being affected by anything that nature hit them with and return to those very ways of building their spaces.
I hope people really get the grasp of the chaos brought by a building methods adapted without any tests done to know whether or not they are actually suitable for their surrounding before it's too late...
